🎪 About EDC Las Vegas

Under the electric sky, all are welcome

Electric Daisy Carnival, universally known as EDC, is the largest dance music festival in North America and one of the most spectacular live event experiences on Earth. Organized by Insomniac Events, founded and led by Pasquale Rotella, EDC Las Vegas is held annually at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where over 1,000 acres of desert are transformed into a neon-drenched wonderland of music, art, and carnival magic.

What makes EDC truly unique is its dusk-to-dawn format. Gates open around 7 PM each evening, and music runs continuously until approximately 5:30 AM, allowing attendees to dance under the stars and the vast Nevada desert sky. This overnight schedule creates an otherworldly atmosphere where massive light shows, fireworks, and LED installations reach their full visual potential against the darkness, resulting in a sensory experience unlike any other festival.

EDC is not just a music festival — it is a full-scale carnival. The grounds feature massive amusement park rides including Ferris wheels, roller coasters, and swing rides; enormous art installations that serve as interactive gathering points; roaming performers, dancers, and artists; and elaborate themed environments that transport attendees to another world. The festival's ethos of PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity, Respect) permeates every aspect of the experience and has created one of the most welcoming and inclusive festival communities on the planet.

With over 500,000 attendees across three nights, 8 or more uniquely themed stages, and hundreds of the world's top electronic music artists, EDC Las Vegas is a bucket-list event for dance music fans worldwide. The festival has spawned EDC editions in other cities including EDC Orlando, EDC Mexico, EDC Japan, and EDC Portugal, but Las Vegas remains the flagship event and the crown jewel of the Insomniac Events empire.

📖 History

From a Los Angeles warehouse party to the electric sky over Las Vegas

1997

First EDC in Los Angeles

The first Electric Daisy Carnival was held in 1997 in Los Angeles, California, organized by a young Pasquale Rotella and his fledgling Insomniac Events company. The inaugural event was a modest warehouse rave, but it laid the foundation for what would become the largest dance music festival in North America. The carnival-themed concept — combining electronic music with rides, art, and performance — was revolutionary.

2010

Tragedy in LA Leads to Relocation

The 2010 EDC at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum was marred by tragedy when a 15-year-old attendee died from a drug overdose. The incident, combined with growing concerns from Los Angeles officials about the event's size and safety, led to the decision to relocate the festival. This dark moment became a turning point that ultimately led EDC to its permanent home and forced the industry to take safety more seriously.

2011

Moved to Las Vegas Motor Speedway

EDC relocated to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in June 2011, a move that would transform the festival forever. The massive 1,000+ acre venue gave Insomniac virtually unlimited space for stages, carnival rides, and art installations. The Las Vegas setting also allowed for the iconic dusk-to-dawn format, as the desert heat made daytime festivals impractical. The inaugural Las Vegas edition was a massive success, with over 230,000 attendees across two nights.

2014

Expansion to 3 Days

EDC Las Vegas expanded from two nights to three, running Friday through Sunday in a dusk-to-dawn format each night. This expansion allowed for even more artists, more stages, and more attendees, pushing the festival past 400,000 total attendance. The three-night format became a defining feature of the EDC Las Vegas experience and helped solidify it as a must-attend destination event.

2019

Record Attendance

The 2019 edition of EDC Las Vegas saw record attendance, with over 465,000 fans attending across three nights. Camp EDC, the on-site camping experience launched the previous year, expanded significantly, offering attendees the ability to stay on the festival grounds and extending the EDC experience beyond the nighttime hours. The festival was hailed as the best edition to date.

2023

Continued Growth

EDC Las Vegas continued to grow and evolve, surpassing 500,000 total attendees across three nights and further expanding Camp EDC. New stage designs, enhanced production technology, and an ever-growing roster of world-class artists cemented EDC's position as the premier North American electronic music festival. Insomniac's commitment to community, art, and experience keeps EDC at the forefront of festival culture.
